Department of Emergency Medicine provides emergency care round-the-clock to patients with a variety of emergencies. It is manned by faculty, senior residents and junior residents to provide efficient emergency care. The number of patients attending the Emergency Department has increased over the last five years. Since 2009-10, the number of patients attending our emergency has increased by 22%. In the year 2013-14, nearly 1,35,000 patients attended the emergency department.

The Department has two operation theatres for immediate surgical interventions. It has high-end facilities to manage and monitor critically ill patients. It has all types of equipments required for emergency care. These include defibrillators, ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, nebulizers and others. The Department has electrically-operated chest compressors as well as automatic chest compressor-defibrillation system for providing high-standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The Department is actively involved in studying prognostic role of biomarkers in various emergencies like acute coronary syndrome, severe sepsis and acute pancreatitis. It was involved in designing a innovative cardiopulmonary resuscitation system for use in patients with cardiac arrest.
