The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology in the Department of Pediatrics is one of the very few dedicated units in the country for management of endocrine disorders in children. The division was established by Dr P.S.N. Menonin 1981 along with two senior residents with active support from the senior faculty from the Department of Endocrinology.
The Division has initiated many new research projects as well as therapeutic modalities for children with various endocrine disorders. Neonatal thyroid screening was started as a pilot project in 1984. Facility for prenatal diagnosis of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia was developed in 1998. The Pediatric EndocrinologyClinic in the Department of Pediatrics, AIIMS was the first in India to start Growth Hormone therapy for children with short stature due to Growth Hormone deficiency and Turner syndrome. Gonadotropin releasing hormone therapy for precocious puberty was started for the first time in India in 1984. Many publications have been made by the division.
Many national and international conferences, training workshops and seminars have been organized by this division for educating postgraduates and pediatricians in this subspecialty.
