AIIMS as a premier medical research center in the country is dedicated to provide quality patient care services supported by quality biomedical research to meet the emerging public health challenges.

The landscape of infectious diseases has broadened  in the last few decades. Emergence of highly infectious and lethal microorganisms such as MDR /XDR strains of M. tuberculosis, SARS- CoV-2, Avian influenza etc, necessitates an on campus BSL-3 .

The BSL-3 will provide a facility for research on high risk group pathogens in a safer and contained environment.

Objectives

• The Biosafety Program at BSL-3, CCRF, AIIMS is committed towards protecting faculty, staff and students, from potential exposure to biological hazards, and to ensure that research involving biological hazards and the areas used to conduct such work are in compliance with applicable government regulations, and national and international guidelines.
• The BSL-3 Laboratory is designed to provide a safe working environment to all researchers in the institute who carry out research on infectious diseases caused by RG-III pathogens.
