Casualty Services
Round the clock supervision of Casualty for imparting Expert Opinion ( medicolegal services) in requisite cases belonging to jurisdiction of South and South East Delhi. These include cases of injury, sexual offences, poisoning and other complicated medico-legal cases. The department is attending all the calls pertaining to medical examination in police & judicial custody.
Medico-legal Postmortem services
AIIMS caters to the jurisdiction of all police stations under south and south-east districts of Delhi which include magistrate inquest cases, board cases and exhumation cases. There are two mortuaries – one at main hospital and other at Trauma centre. The doctors of the department provide medico-legal postmortem services on all days of the week during normal working hours i. e. Monday to Friday: 9AM-5PM and on Saturdays: 9AM-1PM. The services are also provided on Sunday from 9AM to 1PM.
Clinical Forensic Medicine
The department examines cases of age estimation, medical examination, marriage disputes, potency, DNA fingerprinting etc referred by Honorable Courts, CBI and other investigating agencies.
Embalming services:
Recently the department has started providing embalming services in medicolegal cases only required for transportation of dead body to far away places in India and abroad.
DNA Fingerprinting
The department is providing training to the candidates of various universities and providing DNA fingerprinting services in referred cases from court and investigating agencies.
Medical Toxicology Laboratory
Tests for various poisons e.g. Heavy metals, opiates, benzodiazepines and alcohol are done in toxicology laboratory. It provides clinical laboratory services to the hospital patients. The main role is however contributing towards research purposes.
Forensic HistoPathology
The department is providing the histopathology services for the samples of medico-legal autopsy cases in AIIMS and also for research purpose.
